Normanton

Location:

40km west of Normanton

Tenement Area:

232km2

Primary Target:

Iron-oxide copper gold (IOCG)

Highlights:

High intensity magnetic anomaly

First mover advantage
 - no prior exploration for basement mineralisation

Located within interpreted Eastern Fold Belt lithologies

The key exploration targets at Normanton are defined by several discrete high-order magnetic anomalies which are associated with an offset broad regional gravity high. These features are considered to be indicative of the development of large-scale metasomatic alteration systems prospective for IOCG mineralisation.

Basement rocks within the project area are interpreted as the covered northern extension of Eastern Fold Belt lithologies as evidenced by the discontinuous belt of magnetic highs that can be traced from Normanton to the Boomara Ridge area approximately 200km to the south. The Eastern Fold Belt is host to the largest IOCG deposits discovered to date in the Mt Isa region, including the Ernest Henry* deposit and numerous other more recent IOCG discoveries.

There has been no prior exploration for basement hosted mineralisation within the project area and hence depth to basement is unknown.

A single stratigraphic bore hole drilled 40km to the east of the project area in 1988 intersected sheared granite basement from 636 metres. Although the depth to target is substantial exploration drilling for IOCG systems elsewhere in Australia (eg: Gawler Craton) now routinely extends to depths well in excess of 1,000 metres.

The Company proposes to conduct detailed geophysical surveys over the project area to refine targets prior to drill testing. The geophysical surveys will include magnetic and gravity surveys supplemented by electrical surveys where applicable.
