In addition to the project areas described on the preceding web pages MET has secured access to exploration permits (and permit applications) in a further three project areas across Burkina Faso with a total area of 1,893km2. These areas comprise the Ouahigouya, Fada and Namtenga Projects.
Each of these additional project areas was selected by MET for a range of factors that indicate significant potential for the discovery of large-scale gold deposits including the presence of:
Ouahigouya Project
The Ouahigouya Project comprises two granted exploration permits and one permit application with a total area of 735km2. The Ouahigouya permits are located from 80 kilometres to the north-west of Ouagadougou and occur within the Goren Greenstone Belt.
Numerous significant third-party owned gold deposits occur within the Goren Greenstone Belt. Cluff Gold PLC is currently operating a 1Mtpa open pit / heap leach gold mine at the Kalsaka site (figure 1).
Limited exploration activity has been completed to date by MET in the Ouahigouya Project area.
Artisanal mining sites have been identified across all three project permits (figure 2).
Fada Project
The Fada Project comprises one granted exploration permit and one permit application with a total area of 472km2. The permits are located approximately 250 kilometres to the east of Ouagadougou and occur within the north-east extension of the Youga Greenstone Belt.
The Youga Greenstone Belts hosts the 1Mtpa Youga open pit gold mine (Etruscan Resources) located 170 kilometres along strike from the project area (figure 3).
Limited exploration activity has been completed to date by MET in the Ouahigouya Project area. One artisanal mining site (Touseygou) has been identified to date in the granted Nanemi exploration permit.
Namtenga Project
The Namtenga Project comprises one granted exploration permit and two permit applications with a total area of 686km2 and is located from 150 kilometres to the north-east of Ouagadougou.
The Namtenga Project permits are situated within or adjacent to the multi-million ounce Essakane-Taparko-Bombore-Kiaka gold corridor (figures 4 and 5).
Limited exploration activity has been completed to date by MET within the Namtenga Project area. A decision on the grant of the two permit applications is awaited.
